Description
Foxamine 550 mg is an oral antibiotic, selectively acting in the gut with an active ingredient, which is Rifaximin. It is used locally in the intestines to prevent bacterial growth, and it is recommended for adults as a preventive measure against HE (hepatic encephalopathy).
Indications for use: reduction of overt HE (hepatic encephalopathy) recurrences, FOXAMINE 550MG treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D), and traveler’s diarrhea. Drug class: Gastrointestinal-selective antibiotic, rifamycin class.
As opposed to regular antibiotics, Rifaximin is not absorbed through the intestine into the blood system and remains in the intestinal lumen . It inhibits RNA polymerase of bacteria and prevents FOXAMINE 550MG TABLET RNA synthesis and bacteria reproduction . As a result, in patients with liver diseases it helps to stop bacteria production of such neurotoxins as ammonia which cause neuromuscular and neurocognitive disorders.
