How Capcita 500mg Works Inside the Body

Capecitabine does not hit cancer cells the moment you swallow it. It goes in as an inactive compound and the body itself does the conversion, turning it into 5-fluorouracil, or 5-FU, through a series of steps that happen naturally in the tissue. 

5-FU is what actually does the damage to cancer cells. It blocks them from making the DNA and RNA they need to keep dividing. No division means no growth. No growth means the cells eventually die off.

How to Take It

Patients need to take Capcita twice a day, roughly 30 minutes after a meal, with a full glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole. Never crush, break or chew it. 

The standard cycle runs 14 days on followed by 7 days off, making a 21 day cycle in total. The number of cycles depends entirely on what the oncologist has planned. 

Dose is calculated based on body surface area so it varies from patient to patient. Do not adjust it on your own under any circumstances.

Side Effects to Watch For

Hand-foot syndrome is the one most patients are not prepared for. The palms and soles become red, sore, numb or blistered and it can get bad enough to affect walking and daily tasks. 

Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are common especially in the first cycle. Fatigue hits hard too.
