Primary Uses: Used for treating D2 stage metastatic carcinoma of the prostate in conjunction with other medication .Mode of action: Selective inhibition of the R-enantiomer that prevents androgens (testosterone, dihydrotestosterone) from attaching and activating prostate cancer cell receptors.
Recommended Dosage: Taking one 50 mg tablet orally daily either morning or evening, to be swallowed with plain water. Prescription flexibility: Should be taken either with or without food. Note: Although the 150 mg tablet might be utilized differently, the 50 mg tablet cannot be taken alone.
Contraindications: Should not be used by females including pregnant or lactating mothers or children. Contraindications: Allergic reactions to bicalutamide, current use of cisapride, terfenadine, or astemizole. Serious adverse effects: There have been reports of hospitalizations or deaths associated with cases of acute liver failure in some patients. Periodic liver test may be carried out.
