Description
Peyona 20 mg/ml is a prescription medicine used to manage primary apnea in prematurely born babies (apnea – pauses in breathing longer than 20 seconds). The active ingredient is caffeine citrate that stimulates both central nervous system and respiratory system. Peyona can be applied only in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU).
Active Ingredient: Caffeine citrate (20 mg/ml). Equivalent: 1 ml of Peyona 20mg injection contains 10 mg of caffeine citrate. Every 1 ml of Peyona contains: 20 mg of caffeine citrate (10 mg caffeine base); Citric acid monohydrate; Sodium citrate; Water for injections. Presentation: Colorless solution supplied in 1 ml or 3 ml ampoules for single use only. Route of Administration: Intravenous or oral solution.
Loading Dose: 20 mg of caffeine citrate per kg of body weight, administered intravenously in 30 minutes dose. Maintenance Dose: 5 mg per kg of body weight once a day, either by intravenous infusion in 10 minutes or by mouth (for example, via feeding tube).Monitoring: Requires regular blood test performed by neonatologist to measure the level of caffeine.
